Executive Director of the Columbia River Maritime Museum since January 2024, after serving as Deputy Director since November 2017.
Elected Mayor, City of Astoria, OR 2019-2022; City Councilor 2017- 2019. Helicopter pilot for the Columbia River Bar Pilots 2014-2016 after serving 30 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring as a Captain. Commanding Officer of three different operational units: Air Station New Orleans; Sector Lake Michigan; and Sector Columbia River. Responsible for virtually the full spectrum of Coast Guard missions across multi-state areas as Captain of the Port; Federal on Scene Coordinator (oil spill response); Federal Maritime Security Coordinator; Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator; and Officer in Charge of Marine Inspection. Served as Chief, Office of Strategic Analysis at Coast Guard Headquarters. Primary author of Coast Guard Strategic Plan and Commandant's Direction (four year guidance to the Service). Extensive experience representing the Coast Guard to national media. Operational Specialty was aviation; recognized with "Aircrew of the Year" awards from the Helicopter Association International; American Helicopter Society; Association of Naval Aviation and Naval Helicopter Association. Instructor Pilot; over 5,600 hours flown. Military awards include the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal (6) and Air Medal (3).
